Obesity is one of the biggest issues vets see in dogs and cats, says Dr Ingrid de Wet, senior veterinarian at Country Animal Clinic in Somerset West.“Being overweight causes significant health problems with one of the greatest being arthritis, which is very painful for the animal.”

The best way to monitor your pet’s weight is to ensure they go for their annual checkup, she adds.
