Since its launch in 2018, TikTok has grown to be one of the world's most downloaded apps, turning regular people into superstars overnight.

The social media platform says more than 1 billion people around the world now come to TikTok every month to be entertained as they learn, laugh, or discover something new.

Learning new hacks has become a major drawcard for the app and this keeps people coming back for more. But do they actually work?

Here are 10 tried and tested hacks that make life so much easier.

Shaving cream on foggy mirrors 

Immediately after your steamy shower, you want to look in the mirror and check if your face is cleanly shaven, but your mirrors are too foggy.

Just reach for your can of shaving foam, squirt a little on your hand, rub it on your mirror and wipe it off with a dry towel. And like magic, your mirror will be as clear as day and streak-free.

Using Coca-Cola to remove rust

If you’ve left your tools outside and they're covered in rust, fear not, there’s a solution at hand. Just soak them in Coke overnight and simply scrub away the rust.

No more nausea

Our stomachs choose the most inopportune moments to turn on us. Next time you feel like youre going to throw up, simply sniff an alcohol swab.

Dr Anthony Youn, a US-based plastic surgeon with millions of followers on TikTok, says doctors and nurses use this trick all the time to help with nausea.

Chilling wine with frozen grapes

Nothing worse than coming home to a warm bottle of wine after a long day at work.

A simple way to chill your tipple without watering it down is to keep frozen grapes in the fridge. Use red grapes for red wine and white grapes for white wine.

Cutting cake with a wine glass

If you don’t have a knife, simply scoop the cake out using your wine glass. Flip the glass upside down and press it  in to your cake. Key to this method working is everybody scooping the same amount of cake.

Laminating your brows with soap

We all want our eyebrows to stay in place, but brow gel can get expensive. Try this instead: wet your spoolie, run it across a bar of soap and brush it through your eyebrows. Your brows will stay in place the whole day.

Hulling strawberries with a straw

YouTuber Jerry James Stone describes this method as giving a strawberry a colonoscopy. Thats one way of putting it! Take a plastic straw and push it through the strawberry from the bottom until the calyx (green leafy part) pops off.

Pop a paper towel in a bag of lettuce or spinach

Lettuce and spinach always wilt faster than we can eat them. Next time you have a leftover bag of spinach, take two sheets of a paper towel and slip it into the bag then seal it like you normally would. The paper towel absorbs all the moisture that causes vegetables to rot.

Peel garlic easily

Peeling garlic is a chore nobody enjoys. TikTok user @syedakushi advises you to microwave your garlic for 30 seconds before peeling. The skin will come off easily. This method works best for those who want to mince their garlic, as the garlic is a little mushy after being heated.

 Plant your seedlings just before the rainy season

If you want to grow your own produce, @Farmer.froberg advises that you plant your seedlings directly into the ground, just before it rains for better germination.
