This month marks the 40th anniversary of the release of her very first album, and Madonna is relieved that following her recent health scare she's back on track doing what she loves best: dancing.

“To be able to move my body and dance just a bit makes me feel like the Luckiest Star in the world!" the 64-year-old pop queen wrote in an Instagram post, which featured a video of herself twirling and dancing to her hit single Lucky Star.

She expressed gratitude to her supporters by adding “Thank you to all of my fans and friends! You must be my lucky stars too! And Happy 40th Birthday to my very first album."

Her debut album, Madonna, was released on 27 July 1983. Tracks such as Lucky Star, Borderline and Holiday really made the world sit up and listen and turned the songbird into a star.

The Frozen singer has been taking time off in recent weeks to recover following her hospitalisation last month. Madge landed up in ICU after being discovered unresponsive at her New York home.

She spent several days in hospital after being diagnosed with a serious bacterial infection.

On 12 July, Madonna was back at home resting and took to Instagram to assure fans she was on the mend.

“Thank you all for your positive energy, prayers and words of healing and encouragement," she wrote. "I have felt the love. I am on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life.”

Prior to her health setback, Madonna was hard at work preparing for her Celebration World Tour that was set to start in July, but this all had to be put on hold.

“My focus now is my health and getting stronger and I assure you, I’ll be back with you as soon as I can," she wrote.

"I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour," she added. “I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.”

The tour, which is to be a commemoration of her long career, is now due to start in October and will see her performing in 43 cities across Europe and America.
