Sofia Vergara has shed some light on why she and Joe Manganiello divorced.

Sofia (51) says her marriage to Joe (47) ended because they had different views on children.

"My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids, and I didn't want to be an old mom. I feel it's not fair to the baby," she told Spanish newspaper El País.

Sofia, who is mom to an adult son, said she was "ready to be a grandmother, not a mother".

She was 19 when she had her son, Manolo, now 32, with her ex-husband, José González.

Sofia and José split in 1993, two years after Manolo was born.

"When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while, and then I'll give it back to him and go on with my life; that's what I have to do," she said.

If she finds love again, she said, her partner "has to come" with his own children.

"I'm almost in menopause; it's the natural way of things."

Since their divorce announcement in July, Joe and Sofia have both been seeing other people.

Joe has been dating actress Caitlin O’Connor, and Sofia has been spotted on multiple dates with orthopaedic surgeon Justin Saliman.

Her latest acting role is in the new Netflix series, Griselda.

The six-episode drama series, which streams from 25 January, sees Sofia playing Griselda Blanco, the real-life Colombian drug cartel leader known as "the Godmother."

Michael Blanco, the son of the real Griselda, is suing Netflix and Sofia, who is a producer of the series, among others, to stop its release.

He's claiming the show's creators used his "private artistic literary work" without permission or credit, which has created "irreparable harm," according to his lawsuit filed in Florida.

He's asking for damages of at least $50 000 (R943 000).

Netflix and Sofia have not commented on the lawsuit.
