Paris Hilton has revealed why she chose a surrogate for the births of her two children.

The hotel heiress, who is married to American businessman Carter Reum, says she wanted a surrogate for the birth of their son, Phoenix, now 10 months, due to the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) she suffers following the sexual assault she experienced as a teenager.

She first opened up about the sexual, physical and emotional abuse she suffered during her year-long stay at Provo Canyon School, a boarding school for troubled youth in Utah, in her 2020 YouTube documentary, This is Paris.

Her harrowing experiences included being woken up in the middle of the night and being subjected to non-consensual gynaecological examinations.

“I cried while they held me down and said, ‘No!’ They just said, ‘Shut up. Be quiet. Stop struggling’,” she revealed on X (formerly known as Twitter) last year.

As a result, she says she suffers from PTSD when she visits a doctor’s surgery.

She says she didn’t feel it would be right to carry a baby while feeling so much anxiety.

“If I’m in a doctor’s office, If I have to get a shot, anything, I will literally have a panic attack and I can’t breathe,” she told Romper.

In November she and Carter welcomed their second child, a daughter named London.

Speaking on NBC’s Today, Paris called her daughter “a little angel”.

“My life just feels so complete with my little baby boy and my baby girl,” she gushed.

She says she is super-excited to share her first Christmas with her son and daughter, but her parenting journey has not been without some bumps.

She had to face nasty comments about her son’s head when a photo of him had many questioning how unusually big it appeared to be.

During season 2 of her reality show, Paris in Love, she also left fans shocked when she confessed she hadn’t changed Phoenix’s nappy for the first month as she was “scared” to do it.

In The clip, Paris is seen introducing her younger sister, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, to her then 32-day-old son.

“Should I learn how to change his diaper?” she asks Nicky, herself a mom of three.

Phoenix’s nanny, Gena, is seen standing by the changing table as Nicky instructs her sister on how to do it. At one point, Paris asks the nanny which side of the nappy is the front and which side is the back

Thousands of viewers expressed their shock when the clip was posted to TikTok.

“I’m sorry… what?” wrote one. “I don’t wanna sound like I’m mom-shaming but come onnnn A MONTH?!? Even my husband changed a diaper after a day!!”

“Rich people are so out of touch with reality, this is real sad,” exclaimed another.
