Oscar-nominee Emma Stone has promised she'll be a lot more careful about what she says about her friend, Taylor Swift, in future
After winning the Best Film Actress award at last month's Golden Globes award ceremony, Emma joked that Tay-Tay was "an a**hole".
The Poor Things actress was asked by a reporter about her friendship with Taylor, who was also nominated for her record-breaking concert movie, The Eras Tour.
“What an a–hole. I've known her for almost 20 years. I was very happy she was there, and she was also nominated tonight, which was wonderful. And yes, what an a–hole,” she joked.
Taylor was unperturbed by her friend's silliness, but Swifties were quick to get on their phones and give Emma a tongue-lashing.
"Hilarious. . . Jk. Meh,” wrote one.
"That's a joke?" asked another.
Emma, speaking to Variety magazine recently, said she "definitely won’t make a joke like that again. I saw headlines that really pulled it out of context.”
"What a dope," she added, pointing at herself.
Taylor and Emma met in 2008 at the Young Hollywood Awards in Los Angeles and hit it off right away.
“We met there, and then I listened to some of her music, and I wrote her an e-mail saying I liked her music,” Emma recounted in a 2010 interview.
“And then we started talking and hanging out. She's so great! We're very different, but she has such a sick sense of humour.”
The pair often attend other's events – Emma goes to Taylor's concerts, and the singer is a regular on the red carpet for her friend's movie premiers.
The actress gushed about Taylor when she attended the opening concert of her Eras Tour in Arizona last year.
“I was lucky ’cause Taylor hooked me up, which was very nice ’cause I know those tickets are impossible to get," she told Vanity Fair.
“She blows my mind. I mean, the amount of sheer stamina to do three and a half hours and perform 44 songs and to maintain the extreme energy of the audience I’ve never seen anything like it,” she said.
“She’s a wonderful friend," she added.
