Wow – you gotta commend this teen’s out-the-box thinking!

Wyatt Cheatle, a student at Brighton High School in Rochester, New York, found himself without a date for his junior prom so he decided to take matters into his own hands.

“I figured I’d be my own date, since I know myself better than any other person,” he told the Rochester Democratic and Chronicle

With his mom’s help, he created a one-of-a-kind outfit which was half a gown and half a suit. He says he got the idea after he joked with his family about wearing a dress because he was thinking of going alone.

After buying both outfits, his mom, Kelly, sewed it together. Wyatt opted for accessories to go with the dress half in the form of a wrist corsage, a hair clip and an earring and even added a bit of make-up. For footwear, he opted for unisex sneakers.

His mom was so chuffed with the result she shared photos on Reddit. “My son’s date for the prom was all right. Literally,” she joked.

“So my son was flying solo to the prom, and decided he’d be his own date. One thing led to another and the week before the big event, he decided rather than going with a boring old suit, we’d split the difference and send him in an outfit that’s half-suit and half-dress.”

And the reaction? According to Wyatt he had a good time and got a lot of compliments on his outfit. “No one was a jerk about it.”

Wyatt was even praised online for his unique look, with one person writing: ‘That’s awesome and so clever. Obviously a confident, self-assured young person with a great sense of humour. Bravo to both of you!’ ”

“That’s a young man with positivity and confidence. What a great idea. It took creativity and talent to put it together. Well done,” wrote another.
