This loyal pooch spent three days at the entrance of a hospital waiting for its owner who was being treated inside for Covid-19.

Doctor Meli Valderrama who works at the Guillermo Almenara hospital in Lima, Peru said the dog had arrived at the facility with its owner who had been taken there in an ambulance.

But the furry animal wasn’t allowed to follow its owner, whose name isn’t known, into the hospital.

“This little one came accompanied by its relative, who’s hospitalised in hospital (for Covid) and it has spent two days waiting,” dr Valderrama wrote on Facebook.

“It was cold and hungry. We gave it some warm clothes and food, but it will need more for the next days. Please help. It’s very smart and loving.”

According to the Huellitas Felices Peru animal organisation, the owner’s relatives refused to look after the dog, who was named Firuco by the hospital workers.

“It [Firuco] arrived at the Guillermo Almenara Hospital with its owner who was brought in by an ambulance,” the animal organisation wrote.

“Security guards and hospital workers put a coat on it and some people are giving it food, water and gave it a small house. [...] Unfortunately, according to the security guards, the owner’s relatives don’t want the dog with them.”

Dr Valderrama said on Facebook that Firuco has since been taken to a vet who examined it and confirmed it is in good health.

Neither the health condition of its owner nor their name has been reported.

According to local newspaper El Comercio, many hospital workers and animal lovers are looking after the pet while they’re looking for someone who can take care of it.
