She sways her hips to the upbeat music, wraps her arms around her partner and shimmies her shoulders before he dips her as they dance to the upbeat music. It’s hard to believe Daniella Alvarez had her leg amputated just three weeks ago.
The Columbian beauty queen recently revealed she’d had surgery to remove a lump in her abdomen, The Daily Mail reports, but when the blood supply to her left leg was cut off during the procedure, it was decided it needed to be amputated.
Now Daniella, who was crowned Miss Columbia in 2011, has shared a video of herself dancing with her brother Ricki. “Putting the swing to life with my favourite partner @rickialvarezv,” she captioned the clip. “Difficulties don’t matter! We must be resilient in life!”
It's this optimistic spirit that’s won the beauty queen new fans the world over. Daniella (32) has been very frank about her health issues, sharing her journey with her 1.6 million Instagram followers.
“I love my body the same as I did before,” she said after the amputation. “I am happy to be here in this world to experience the new challenges coming into my life. I know that by the hand of God, I will achieve everything,” she added.
Everyone from fans to her ex-boyfriend, Lenard Vanderaa, have been singing her praises. “Your way of facing this has me completely speechless. Your integrity and always seeing the glass half full is your best attitude,” he wrote on social media.
“Thank you for teaching me so much every day.”
While limb amputation wounds typically take about six to eight weeks to heal, Daniella is already on her feet. But she’s under no illusion of the long road ahead.
“Still hard days but I’m ready to face them,” she says. “God always hears our prayers.”
