He was replacing the locks in his parents’ house when, without thinking, he reached for his phone to call his dad to ask where he kept his tools.

Jaco Botha* often called his father for help and advice, but this time he just stared at his phone as the realisation hit him like a punch to the stomach.

His dad would never answer his phone again – and neither would his mom or his sister. They’d all been killed at their home in Rondebult, Gauteng, allegedly by his brother on New Year’s Eve.
