It feels like an old wound that is constantly being scratched open. Just when the Matthews family thinks they can begin to come to terms with their beloved daughter Leigh's death, the parole hearing of her killer rips the band-aid off their deepest hurt anew.

Donovan Moodley, the man convicted of Leigh’s murder, has spent the past 16 years behind bars after he was handed a life sentence for kidnapping and murdering her in 2004.

Moodley was denied parole last year and appealed the parole board’s decision with the High Court in Johannesburg, where Judge Stuart Wilson ordered the board to hold a new hearing for Moodley by no later than 31 March.
