It’s summer time and to quote Bob Marley “the sun is shining, the weather is sweet!”

So it’s time to get out there and live your best summer life by experiencing all the great places your hood has to offer.

Here’s a list of cool places you should definitely check out:

Emmarentia Dam - Johannesburg

Whether you want to hang out with your dog, picnic with friends or just go for a walk around the surrounding botanical gardens, this is a great place to spend a few summer days and take in the beauty of nature.

You can also do things like canoeing and sailing small boats. Plus there’s a small café near the entrance that serves light meals if you’re there without a packed lunch.

Parker’s Comedy and Jive – Johannesburg

Check out the number one venue for comedy in Joburg and the home of some of the funniest South African and international comedy.

It features the best comedians from Wednesday to Saturday every week. Get more info here.

The Rose Kitchen at Ludwig’s Roses – Pretoria

If you’re looking for a great place to have a high tea, intimate party or even just a picnic with a group of friends, then this is a great venue. If you or your friends have got kids, then there’s a playground with go-carts, push bikes and scooters to keep them entertained and it’s rather close to the restaurant.

Plus there’s a store where they sell edible rose products too.  Find their contact details here.

Acrobranch – Pretoria

Acrobranch is a great treetop experience for both adults and kids where you get to climb up different obstacle courses in the trees. So if you miss the days of being a wee one and climbing trees then this is for you. It’s fun, you get a little bit of exercise and it could be a great team building exercise too!

Get more info here.

The Silo Rooftop Bar – Cape Town

On top of the Silo Hotel in the Waterfront, it’s the newest place to be in the Mother City which offers amazing views of Table Mountain while you sip on cocktails after work or over the weekend.

You’ll need to reserve a table at the rooftop bar though, so be sure to call ahead. Get the contact details here.

A little hole-in-the-wall jazz club, it’s a well-kept secret. The restaurant/ bar is a project that was created by a young firm of Durban architects aimed at shining a light on “the best urban precinct in KwaZulu Natal.”

The décor is gorgeous, the drinks look delicious and the vibe pretty cool. Check out their site here.
