Weekend reads

The President’s Keepers by Jacques Pauw has been causing a stir for so many reasons – so much so that his book has been pirated due to threats of banning and censorship. Fellow South African author Paige Nick has tackled the topic of how harmful book piracy is to authors, especially considering that they don’t earn much by the way of royalties.

Marriage sabbaticals and mayhem: The Break

Bestselling author Marian Keyes is back with a fabulous new read tackling marriage sabbaticals. Tiffany Markman, our reviewer says:

“In this novel Marian also covers, beyond the marriage sabbatical, the responsibilities of caring for aging parents, the trials of blended families, the heartbreak of unwanted pregnancy, the illegality of abortion in Ireland, and more.

“I laughed. I cried. I felt understood. I felt enraged.”

Drench your skin in

"I always thought I was protecting my skin by using aqueous lotion, so I was shocked when I realised it contained sodium laureth sulfate – I had been rubbing soap into my face all these years! Thankfully, I recently discovered and made a switch to Aveeno’s Dermexa Emollient Cream. It contains a triple oat formula which seals in moisture really well, and is fragrance-free and contains no parabens.

"So far I’m highly impressed, and I especially love the subtle scent of oats on my skin. This lotion sells every 1.4 seconds in the US, so I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a clear winner in SA too." - Zakiyah Ebrahim
