That’s right. Kristen
Stewart has agreed to star across from Nicholas Hoult in “Equals”, a romantic film adaption of “1984”.
“1984”. The famous dystopian novel by George Orwell. The one about the dangers of totalitarianism. The one that discusses topics such as nationalism, censorship, a “big brother” styled government, and the future. That “1984”.
Directed by Drake Doremus and written by Nathan Parker, “Equals” is promised by Krirsten Stweart to be “a love story of epic, epic, epic proportion”, who then added, quite fairly, “I’m scared.”
I can’t blame Kristen Stewart, who also called the movie “overly ambitious” and claimed to have told Drake not to expect that she’s “going to be able to do this, it’s too hard”.
It’s quite a leap to go from "Twilight", which, despite its popularity, cannot claim to be based on serious literature, to something like this.
I doubt many have ever felt “1984” and the phrase “epic love story” should go together. While there is a major relationship in “1984”, it’s not exactly remembered as one of classic literature’s greatest romances.
Still, I will admit I’m curious. Will "Equals" actually cause George Orwell to spin in his grave so fast that he ricochets out of it, or will it turn out to be, dare I say it, good?
