Pretoria - Apartheid-era killer Eugene de Kock was treated like a “king” during his incarceration at Kgosi Mampuru II prison in Pretoria and he even had a specially prescribed diet, say other people who were in the same prison.
De Kock commanded an apartheid police hit squad based at Vlakplaas. He was sentenced in 1996 to two life sentences plus 212 years for offences including murder.
His fellow former inmate told Power FM that officials addressed De Kock as “colonel” and also revealed that there was “segregation” at the prison based on race.

Another inmate told the radio station, that most inmates are allowed five visits per month but De Kock would sometimes get 10 or 15.
On January 30 Justice and Correctional Services Minister Mike Masutha announced he had approved De Kock's parole.
The Sunday Times reported at the weekend that De Kock’s lawyer said his client was being held in a secret location.
The lawyer, Julian Knight, also said De Kock has been taken all over “the bloody country ... against his will”.
Justice and correctional services ministry, the State Security Agency, and the SA Police Service declined to comment.
Sapa reported on Saturday that Cope wanted the allegations probed.
