God sleeps in Rwanda

accreditation
God sleeps in Rwanda by Joseph Sebarenzi (Oneworld Publications)
In 1994 under the Hutu Power ideology more than 800 000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed by the Hutu government. The United Nations estimated that between 300 000 and 500 000 Tutsi women were brutally and publically raped as part of the genocide.

Joseph Sebarenzi whose parents and 7 siblings form part of the 800 000 that died, recalls his personal journey in this book. The book explores the origins of the tribal conflict and the various issues that were left over as a hangover of colonialism.

The horror of this book is compounded by the fact that the world, the UN and America did nothing. It is estimated that as few as 5000 peacekeeping soldiers could have prevented 200 000 deaths.

But because Rwanda is a poor, landlocked country with no natural resources or money nothing was done to protect the innocents.

Sebarenzi is still trying to save his country and this book is his attempt to educate the world.
