How I made recycling part of my routine

accreditation
About 7 years ago I decided that I must attack recycling with a passion and teach my children to do the same.

I did the same at work, from recycling batteries, paper, glass, tin and globes.  At home I have bins for everything and heaven help anyone in the family that puts the recycling items in the normal bins.

We also sort out the plastic, into bottles that the street people collect and other plastic and once a week a bag is on the pavements for them to collect, the rest I take every second week to a recycling plant close to our house.

I am a bit of a pain about it.  This year I also started a compost heap, so nothing goes to waste. I believe that everyone needs to do as much as possible to assist the environment.

I believe that all children should be taught the importance of recycling at a young age, but so should adults, as we often see them throw rubbish on the ground. –Erica

I totally agree with you on this recycling thing. It might be a pain in the beginning, but once you get used to it, it becomes part of your routine.

People are so quick to complain, but I believe if you want to see a change, start with yourself and with the way YOU do things.

It doesn't take much effort to keep a separate bag for your plastics. It is also a great activity to involve your kids in (I don't even have kids)!

What pisses me off though is when I pass a recycle bin in a shop or wherever and the bin CLEARLY states glass/plastic or whatever and some people have the audacity to put other crap in it!

Some people really don't give a damn about the environment... or anything else for that matter, but themselves. - Yolandi
