Tony Leon on Mandela's politics

We had a chat with former leader of the opposition party, Tony Leon, about his latest book Opposite Mandela. In this book he shares his many encounters with the country's first democratic president and gives us some insight on Nelson Mandela's leadership.

Tony Leon's political career began in 1974 when he became an organizer for the Progressive Party. In 1994 he was elected as the leader of the Democratic Alliance, during this time Mandela was serving as the country's president.

Naturally, the two would spend a lot of time together or around each other and thus develop a relationship.
