Vampires reign at Teen Choice awards

The fascination with vampires continues to reign over U.S. pop culture as blood-sucking stories dominated the Teen Choice awards with the Twilight films and The Vampire Diaries TV show winning the most surfboard trophies.

The Twilight Saga films scored twelve wins, including choice fantasy movie for sequel New Moon and best summer movie for the series' third film, Eclipse, as well as awards for its stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

Pattinson also won a Teen Choice surfboard for his turn in the romantic drama Remember Me, and Taylor Lautner, who plays the werewolf Jacob Black in the Twilight films, took awards for male hottie, red-carpet icon and choice smile.

The awards ceremony, held on Sunday in Los Angeles for broadcast Monday night on the Fox television network, included appearances by Sandra Bullock, who won choice movie actress, pop star and co-host Katy Perry and soccer star David Beckham.

Among the winners in TV categories, The Vampire Diaries, the fantasy series based on the novels of L.J. Smith and set in a high school, won seven trophies including choice fantasy and science fiction show. Gossip Girl won choice drama and Glee won choice comedy.

Teen pop sensation Justin Bieber, who did not attend the ceremony but spoke via satellite, won the most awards in the music categories, taking out four awards including choice male artist and choice pop album.

The Teen Choice Awards gained 85 million online votes this year from teenagers in support of their favorite shows and stars in movies, television, music, sport and fashion.

It certainly doesn't seem as though vampire lovers plan on giving up their 'bloody' fantasies any time soon...
