A selfless hairdresser has won the hearts of thousands after sharing a heartwarming story of one of her clients who battles with severe depression.
Kayley Olsson, from Iowa in the United States, shared a Facebook post of a 16-year-old girl with tangled hair and explained how the girl wanted Kayley to ‘cut it all off’.
The teenager, whose name is not known, has been battling with depression for a few years and felt ‘down’ and ‘worthless’. She would only get out of bed when she needed to use the bathroom and would never brush her hair.
The girl popped by the hair salon and asked Kayley to shave her hair off for her upcoming school picture because she simply could not deal with the pain of combing it all out.
But Kayley, who was touched by the girl's story, tried her best not to get rid of the girl's long, dark brown locks.
Instead, she spent 13 hours trying to give the teenager the best hairdo possible for her school picture. And by the looks of it, the teenager loved her new hairdo!
"I will actually smile for my school's pictures today. You made me feel like me again,” she told Kayley.
After the act of kindness, Kayley shared the story in the hopes that it would bring awareness to the difficulties people with mental illness face.
“At the end of the day, I want this to be a lesson to people. Mental health is a thing. It affects people all around the world and of all ages,” she says.
Her post has already been liked more than 190 000 times and has been shared 75 000 times by Facebook users who appreciate the hairstylist’s good deed.
