Lindelwa Gama, owner of Liyanda Experience says that women traditionally cut and colour their hair during spring, however there seems to be a change this year. “We have seen a shift in trend whereby women now prefer braiding with a touch of colour to present the new season,” she said.

Hair colours to try for every skin tone

It’s no secret that spring is a season of colour. If you’re worried about which colours best suits your skin tone, Gama encouraged you go for bold shades. “Hair colour should go with skin tone but you should not be limited by this. Instead, be brave to always try bold colours regardless of your skin tone” Lindelwa advises.

Colours that are currently dominating are classics; platinum and blonde looks very well on both dark and light-skinned women.  Rose gold, pink, blue and lilac are also among the hair colours that are trending at the moment. You should always remember to do treatments when you have coloured your hair and use a sulphate free one to make your colour last long.

How can one prepare for colouring on their hair?

Lindelwa says that moisture treatments are ideal for those wanting to colour their hair, because dye tends to dry out your hair. She further recommends that strengthening treatments like the Mizani BOND pHorce are excellent to restore strength when hair breakage occurs as a result of colouration or braiding. “Scalp care treatment is always good for braids. The Mizani Scalp Care Calming Lotion is great haircare maintenance when wearing braids”.

When asked how long one should keep the hairstyle for, Lindelwa advises that braids should not be kept on for more than 4 weeks without any wash or scalp treatment. “Healthy scalp equals to healthy hair, we live by this golden rule at Liyanda Experience hair salon.”

Lindelwa suggests that you use the Shea Moisture Detangler to keep your coloured natural hair moisturised.
