  • Always sleep with a satin or silk pillowcase  – I always keep one in my travel bag! Cotton creates friction against our hair, which leads to breakage. A satin or silk pillowcase will protect your hair.
  • Co-washing is my best friend. Regular shampoo can be drying and strips the hair of its natural oils, but co-washing allows the hair to maintain moisture while cleansing.

  • Hair care even when wearing wigs is essential. Most people think that wearing a wig means you don’t have to take care of your hair but it’s the total opposite. It’s essential to wash your mane once a week when you’re wearing protective styles as the hair needs to be cleaned and moisturised, and the scalp needs to breathe. It is a myth that washing your hair less often leads to more growth. Regular washing stimulates the scalp, while going long intervals without washing causes buildup, which clogs pores and prevents growth. So wash weekly!
  • Trimming the ends regularly keeps your hair healthy. I make it a habit to see my stylist once every few weeks, even if my schedule is very busy. She trims my ends at every six to eight weeks and this prevents split ends and allows my hair to remain healthy.

  • Deep condition at least every one to two weeks. Deep conditioning the hair penetrates the shafts and gives your hair an extra boost of moisture. When I’m at the salon, my stylists places me under the dryer with a plastic cap for five to seven minutes for a deep conditioning treatment.
