According to The Cut, Curlfest is a one-day event held in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park which is dedicated to the celebration of natural hair in all its magnificent forms.

The pictures snapped at the event were so lit, it made all other content on my feed pale in comparison.

Wow.

A few weeks ago I met Lisa Price, owner of the natural haircare range, Carol's Daughter (a selected range now available at Clicks! We are really enjoying the hydrating conditioner in black vanilla, in particular) She started the brand in her kitchen in Brooklyn more than a decade ago, now it's a global phenomenon, with L'Oreal now sitting firmly as its parent organisation.

Interestingly she said that 10 years ago, about 80% of black women in the U.S. relaxed their hair. Now this figure sits at under 25%.

The offering in natural haircare products has been upped significantly, and the celebrating thereof along with it.

Locally, Clicks Curls is the biggest event for celebrating natural hair. It's also a platform for knowledge gathering, where new products entering the market can be tried and tested; and networking encouraged. This year's events featured natural hair talks and demonstrations, industry experts and expos showcasing leading brands such as AfroBotanics/Black Pearl, Aunt Jackie’s Curls & Coils, Cantu, Carol's Daughter and Shea Moisture, among other distinguished brands.

Usually held in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, be sure to keep this event in mind next year.

This year, Curl Affair was held in Hyde Park, hosted by Nomzamo Mbatha. Joburg.co.za says it was an event packed with live hair demonstrations, a hair fashion show, informative blogger discussions, live entertainment, an educational science corner and interactive brand activation.
