I feel pretty, oh so pretty

accreditation
Hi girls

I hope you’re keeping fabulously gorgeous and flu-free during the tail-end of this hideous little winter we’re having. (Not me... I’m trickling snot as I type...) In fact, I had to attend a Bobbi Brown ‘Pretty Powerful’ make-up lesson the other day while absolutely rotten with flu. Naturally, I arrived feeling horrendous but, thanks to the skill of their international make-up artist, Eduardo Ferreira, he managed to make me look (semi) human again.

Of all the products he used to disguise my deathly pallor (you’ll be surprised how many foundations and concealers you need to achieve a ‘natural’ look), I was most impressed with Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. ‘It’s water-proof and once it’s on, it WILL NOT BUDGE until you take it off with make-up remover’, said Eduardo. And he was right. He lined my peepers perfectly and despite their watering and tearing up the whole bloody day, the look sat tight. I have absolutely no idea as to how to apply it myself, but liked it so much I’ve decided to buy the damn thing and force myself to learn.

Now let’s talk product!

Have any of you ever heard of a range called Freeman? It’s an American bath and body line that pops up every now and again in our stores and then, for some reason, disappears again without a trace. Thus, I was absolutely delighted to find it’s back in Dis-Chem and snapped up several tubes of their Chocolate and Strawberry Face mask, R59,99.

Aside from smelling tres divine, it’s riddled with a zillion different types of clay that leave your skin feeling as smooth as a baby’s bum. (Just so you know, Freeman is infamous for making goodies that smell yummy enough. Just don’t both with salt scrubs - the actual scrubby bits are too big and few and far in between to properly buff your bod. Stick to their sugar-based offerings instead).

Otherwise… last week we received a Softlips Tint SPF 15 in Rose, R23,95, which Kele ‘Gloss Whore’ Scheppers, our Entertainment Online Producer, immediately pocketed.

New to the range, it’s the skinny, tingly-feeling balm you know and love, except it’s got a little shimmer and a hint of colour. An effect that’s pretty enough to garner a compliment, but subtle enough to be something you could get away with at school - provided your teachers aren’t ruler-wielding nuns with hawk-like eye sight.

Softlips are also running a Search for A Stylista competition, looking for an uber-stylish web TV presenter to rub shoulders with fashionistas and celebs at red carpet events. If you think this sounds like you, visit softlips.co.za.

As for me, I got to test drive Nivea Goodbye Cellulite Gel, R99,99. It contains Lotus Flower which is supposed to help address fat storage and water retension as well as skin’s own natural L-Carnitine, a fab antioxidant.

So, did it get rid of my cellulite? Nope. It’s still there. However, as a beauty editor, I’ve gotten to try just about every cream on God’s green Earth aimed at sorting that shizz out - and none of them have been able to return my ass to it’s former 14-year old glory. Still, three weeks later, the skin on my butt does look a little smoother, if not less dimply (shudder). And I really did enjoy using this one. It isn’t sticky, dissapears into my skin in a flash and smells deliciously clean and fresh – like fresh cut grass. I know I might not win the war against ‘cellies’ , but I’ll never just throw down the towel and stop fighting the good fight. Thus, I’ll always use a cellulite cream and this is a very nice weapon of choice.

Something else I got to play with? TRESemme Thermal Creations Curl Activator Spray, R54,99

(Tresemme have brought out a whole range dedicated to help out those addicted to the heat? You can check it out over here from Thermal Recovery shampoos and conditioners to heat protection sprays, they’ve got your back).

The Curl Activator Spray is ‘ideal for hair that doesn’t usually keep waves’, i.e. me, a super-fine, ‘lomp’ haired gal. So, to put it to the test, I used it alongside my curling iron to whip up a head of Giselle-like waves (I know, so 2009). The result? Seriously strong curls that really did last. Without this product, my waves would’ve been dead in the water come 5pm, but this time they stayed put. I love how this baby provides all the hold of hairspray, but none of that ‘crunchy’ texture.

Anyway, that’s all from me for this week. I’m off to apply yet more chocolate face mask. (And yes, I was tempted to taste it. Disgusting!)

Love, love
Leigh
