Chanel launches male makeup

accreditation

Men wearing makeup is no longer considered a novelty. In fact, chances are you get most of your makeup tips from male makeup artists such as Sir John, James Charles and Nthato Mashishi.

Earlier this year, Somizi became the first African man to become the face of a global makeup brand - Black Opal.

However, makeup designed specifically for men remains largely uncharted territory. Brands such as Clinique have tinkered with products aimed at men; however, Chanel has changed the game completely with its release of Boy de Chanel, its very first makeup line created for men.

The makeup line includes three products: a sheer, tinted foundation, brow pencils, and matte lip balm. The tinted foundation is called Boy de Chanel, with a SPF 25 and comes in eight sheer and hyaluronic acid-infused shades. The line also includes Boy de Chanel brow pencils in four shades. The final product is a clear, moisturising lip balm with a matte finish.

The makeup line launched on September 1, in South Korea, which is the ideal first location because "it is the country with the highest demand and advanced in terms of makeup routines for men. In fact, their beauty regiments are well-developed there with application of makeup products becoming more common place," explained Kristine Kim, communications manager for Chanel (in South Korea) to Forbes.

Kristine also explained the inspiration behind the line, "For Chanel, beauty is not a matter of gender; it is a matter of style. This new range allows men in their beauty routines to have the tools necessary to feel better about themselves. Moreover, men should be free to use makeup products to correct their appearance, without calling into question their masculinity."

We are sure once Boy De Chanel hits our shores, men will be flocking to get their hands on the products, especially our male makeup artists.

Not clued up on male makeup artists in South Africa or men who can rock an eyeshadow like it's nobody's business? Be prepared to be shook at the glam and talent you're about to witness.
