No, you’re not going insane. This talented extreme makeup artist really is capable of making her face “melt”.
Mimi Choi, an ex-teacher from Vancouver, Canada, find’s inspiration for her makeup creations in her dreams and creates unbelievable optical illusions, Makeup.com reports.
Mimi, who suffers from sleep paralysis, explains she often hallucinates during her paralysis and she uses that as inspiration for her “face art”.
Sleep paralysis, according to NHS.UK, is a condition whereby the sufferer finds themselves temporarily unable to move, usually in the moments before falling asleep or after waking up.
Sleep paralysis can be a terrifying experience but Mimi has found she processes her fear through her makeup art.
“When I draw it out, I feel like it [the hallucination] goes away. And then I don’t dream about it much anymore, and I move onto the next dream. It’s kind of like my therapy, it helps me conquer my fear,” she explains.
On her website Mimichoimakeup.com she writes that she studied makeup at Blanche MacDonald beauty school. After completing her studies in 2014 she went on to teach advanced makeup classes herself.
In an earlier interview with Allure she said her main goal is improving her technique daily and to create ever more impressive images. “It’s gotten really hard to impress myself these days but it motivates me to keep trying and doing better,” she said.
Her most recent art, which she shared with her nearly 800 000 Instagram fans, creates the illusion that she’s wearing a mask of her own face.
“Sometimes I look at something in my surroundings and wonder if I could achieve the same effect with makeup,” Mimi told Vancourier.com.
Love it or hate it, you can’t deny her makeup skills are truly amazing.
