The red eye is Hollywood’s striking new make-up trend – here’s how you can get the look

Model Emily Ratajkowski’s bold red eye makeup was the talk of Tinseltown at the all-black Golden Globe Awards after party.

A few other celebrities were seen rocking a similar, albeit more subtle, look.

Here’s why we love the striking effect – and how you too can try it too!

Can I rock this look?

Yes! Anyone can wear the look, young or old. The trick is to find the right shade for your skin tone – the options range from a slightly pink red to more fiery and coppery red and everything in between.

So what’s my colour?

This first depends on what colour you’d like, and how intense you’d like it to be. People with light skin tones can try reds with a pink tinge. If you’ve got olive skin try a slightly deep red, and for darker skin go for a coppery red.

How do I wear it?

Apply the colour of your choice on your upper and lower eyelids. Follow up with a few coats of mascara on your upper and lower lashes. Keep the rest of your make-up minimal to offset the look.

If you want a bit of a smoky eye, apply the red colour of your choice only on your upper eyelids and blend in a bit of black eyeshadow at the outer corners of your eyes. Add a pair of strip lashes to finish this dramatic look off.

DO                                

•  Blend a bit of silver eyeshadow in the inner corners of the eyes for a glam effect on your coppery eyeshadow.
•  Line your waterline with a dark brown liner to prevent your eyes from looking washed out.

DON’T

• Blend in more bright colours on your eyes.
•  Wear heavy blush in an effort to match your eyes.
