Photographer Christy Strever, from Johannesburg, is taking social media by storm with her incredible pictures of people posing with items of food and drink.

It started when the 34-year-old saw a photo of a woman on a beach with a pineapple on her head.

“I decided I had to recreate that shot,” Christy told YOU. “It was just her eyes peeking up to the pineapple, fun and quirky.

“After that, I raided my fridge and found an orange and I had some watermelon so I got straight into it.”

Christy, who started taking food selfies in November 2017, said the amount of time spent on each picture depends on the food that’s being photographed.

“If I’m not putting the food on me it can be quick,” she says. “The whiskey one, for example, took about 45 minutes from painting my face to posting the picture, whereas the chocolate one took me more than two-and-a-half hours – never mind the mess I have to clean up after.”

Christy says her designs aren’t simple to create.

“A lot of people think to it’s easy to take a photo with something like ice cream or strawberries, but the easier you think the picture will be the harder it is.

“I have yet to defeat the doughnut,” she added. “I don’t like my current pic at all but until I’m happy with a plan I won’t be trying it too soon.”

The self-proclaimed food selfie queen, who’s started a food page on Instagram and is followed by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, says people have reacted positively to her creations.

“They send me such awesome messages and comments,” she said. “I don’t have many followers but the ones I do have are so supportive.

“They often send in suggestions and always ask to be a part of my shoots but unfortunately I don’t like other people around me when shooting as I get shy and won’t pose properly.”

Christy encourages people to follow their dreams, no matter how crazy they may seem.

“Patience, patience, patience,” she said. “Don’t give up – we’ve all had bad days where nothing goes right.

“Get through it! Trust me, no idea is too crazy. The crazy ideas give you freedom. I followed my crazy idea, which is a huge passion of mine, and people now love it!”
