5 minutes every morning can transform your skin

We recently conducted a survey which was sponsored by Clarins, where we asked over 1200 women how much time they spend on their skin routine every day. 

54.1% of women said they spend about 10 minutes on their skin in the morning and evening, while 42.3% only take a minute or 2 to slap on moisturiser during the day.

With time always being an issue and us wanting to look our best, of course, there is a way to marry our needs.

Night – 5 minutes

First of all be sure to use products that are suited to your specific skin type - cleanser and moisturiser – so establish whether you have a dry, oily or combination skin.

2 min: Wash your face

Refinery29 notes that the biggest mistake most people make is not to wash their face at night. The entire day’s dirt, sweat and makeup have built up on your skin throughout the day and needs to be removed.  

1 min: Apply a serum and night cream 

Refinery29 notes that adding a product with an active ingredient, like retinol is a must for your nightly beauty routine. When layering your products at night, always remember to start with the thinnest consistency product (serum) and work to the thicker one (night cream). 

2 min

Vogue encourages readers to make their own lip scrub by combining coconut oil (hydrating), sugar (exfoliating) and cinnamon (stimulant for rosy lips) and gently scrub your lips with this for 30 seconds every night. After this I would add a nice hydrating lip balm as a mask while you sleep.  

Day – 5 minutes

3 min: Cleanse as in the evening, moisturise and apply sunscreen

I love the Korean approach to skincare. It’s not as much reactive as it is preventative. Shesintheglow notes that Korean women start their skincare regimes much earlier and therefore tend to have better skin in their late twenties and thirties compared to Western women.

Your best anti-ageing bet is sunscreen. So apply sunscreen every morning before heading out. This rule should be applied 24/7, every day of the year. Not just during summer. 

2 min: Apply eye cream

Add some brightness to your eyes by using an illuminating eye cream like the Clarins Multi-Active Eye, R495. Then massage under the eye using the cryo-metallic application tip which enhances drainage so eyes appear instantly luminous - the product formula minimised fine lines and signs of fatigue.
