Great things that happen when you don’t wear makeup

accreditation

It has become increasingly popular for celebs and social media stars to upload selfies online without makeup on. This trend has, as such, encouraged many young women to go on a day or two "makeup cleanse" – using the hashtag #NoMakeUp or #NoMakeUpSelfie.

I personally love makeup. No seriously, like, I am obsessed. I want to wear it on a daily basis and it forms part of my overall style. And as weird as this may sound, it is one of the things that truly make me happy in life.

For me, makeup is like an added security blanket. Perhaps an extra coat of mascara doesn’t mean anything to you, but it does mean something in my books. And even though I have never really had any skin problems, I still love to enhance my complexion with a good foundation and concealer.

Me with makeup.

And without.

That said, whether you are a beauty lover or an anti-makeup warrior, wearing, or not wearing, makeup is your choice and your choice only.

With all that being said I decided to partake in a no makeup challenge for a day and share some of the things I experienced on this one-day journey:

You will have more free time

This was the very first thing I noticed: I had time I didn’t even realise I had. I normally take about 20 minutes deciding on what to wear because my outfit always has to match my makeup. So, what did I do? I used it for an extra-long snooze which was delightful.

People will still treat you the same way

I naturally have a shiny nose and forehead and I always make sure I apply a lot of powder onto these areas to not attract too much attention. But not using makeup showed me that others often don’t even see these so-called flaws.

At first, I didn’t want to leave the house because I wasn’t sure about how people would react, but I had to go somewhere with my sister and to my surprise, people I see almost every day didn’t even notice I was makeup-free. I didn’t get any weird looks and I wasn’t treated any differently. Maybe people don’t really give an inch whether you are wearing makeup or not. We are our own biggest critic.

Your skin will thank you

Firstly, it is so great not having to remove your makeup before going to bed. Such a time-saver! My skin was also able to breathe more easily and even though it was only one day it looked fresh and radiant.

As much as makeup products are good for the skin and are designed to make it better, we must realise that some some of them contain harmful toxins and chemicals that are bad for the skin and for some skin types. Too much makeup all the time can cause skin irritation, and allergic reactions. So taking a break from makeup will relieve your skin from all this.
