It’s only natural that you wish they could last forever because mani’s don’t come cheap. Here’s what you can do to make yours last longer:

Nail technicians from Sorbet Samantha Benny and Sinoxolo Qonongo gave us a few tips on nail care.

·      Avoid heat

Heat ruins nails very fast. When using water adjust the temperature to lukewarm and for maximum protection use gloves when washing dishes.

·      Moisturise

Your nails will definitely chip and break if your cuticles and nails are dry. The professionals at Sorbet advice that you apply a cuticle oil of your choice daily to prevent this from happening.

·      Go for touch ups

Even if you take these necessary precautions, you can’t stop your nails from growing. “While some people’s nails take longer to grow, others grow very fast hence it’s always a good idea to have a retouch after two weeks maximum” says Samantha. This will see you having nails lasting up to four weeks.

·      Don’t peel

It’s very tempting to peel off acrylic or gel when your nails are worn out. “Instead of peeling it off and risking damaging your natural nails and possibly hurting yourself go to the salon and get a professional to do a soak off”.

·      Regular treatments

As much as you go for hair treatments your nails need as much attention. Salons offer a variety of these.
