10 places in SA where you can get a spectacular wedding venue for under R50 000

Rustic Rock, Pretoria

This charming place was voted Best Wedding Venue in Pretoria by Oflocal 2016: Bronze Award And Best Rustic Venue in Gauteng by Oflocal 2016 and is all about ox-wagons, tractors, telephone booths, windmills and antique doors.

The venue can accommodate 60-100 guests (including a dance floor) and includes a DJ, dance floor lights, cutlery and crockery, food and two wedding coordinators. The package cost to accommodate 60 guests starts from R48 000 and they're currently running a 2018 special for the first 20 bookings for February to June 2018 weddings. The Plantation, Port Elizabeth

It's easy to see why this venue won the National Winner - Elite Wedding Venue in 2016's Top Vendor Wedding Awards among many other shout outs. Intimate and sophisticated, it's like an enchanted forest.

A ten-minute drive from central Port Elizabeth, your fairytale wedding will be even more romantic in this alluring setting with mood-enchancing lighting.

The venue can accommodate between 40-200 guests and the cost begins at R44 000 and includes but is not limited to the chapel, flowers, decor, food and drinks. 

Towerbosch, Stellenbosch 

Have your ceremony on the lawn or beneath shady oak trees. Towerbosch won the award for best wedding venue on a wine farm at the 2015 TopVendor wedding awards. We love the cosy, thatched roof setting with bespoke ceiling chandeliers made of white-painted farm twigs you can drape with vintage treasures and family trinkets.

A maximum of 100 guests can be accomodated and the cost ranges from R24,000 to R29,000 and the honeymoon room at the Knorhoek Country Guesthouse is included in the package as a wedding gift from the owners.

Hartford House, Mooi River, Kwazulu-Natal

This hidden gem is a romantic hideaway situated in Summerhill Stud on the picturesque KwaZulu-Natal Midlands Meander and has internationally accredited chef, Jackie Cameron, to entice your guests with a delectable menu. The space is modern and warm with an emphasis on comfort. 

They cater for up to 150 guests at a cost of R36 000 and it includes the chapel and garden ceremony hire as well as the cake and DJ table among others.

Oxbow Country Estate, Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng

If you want the sound of meandering waterways in the background while you deliver your vows, this estate is located 40 minutes from Pretoria, Witbank and Benoni and nestled in the heart of Bronkhorstspruit and on the banks of the Osspruit River, 

Voted as a 2017 finalist for country venue in the Top Vendor Wedding Awards, this country style's summer venue hire cost starts from R24 000 and includes up to 200 guests (with a dancefloor).

Askari Lodge, Magaliesburg, Gauteng

An hour drive away from Johannesburg and Pretoria, this lodge offers a wildlife experience with the Big 5 for your big day. Think Africa meets Antique Dutch. Picture pledging your vows in a historic chapel, an open-air forest, or in the bush boma. The venue feels really private and quiet but also offers plenty of activity in the wild to make your day memorable.

The five areas can accomodate 40-150 guests and a non-refundable deposit of R19 800 is required to secure a booking.

Savannah Game & River Retreat, Parys

A 3000 acre farm and an open air chapel are surrounded by exquisite white trees on the banks of the Vaal river.

The reception venue can take a total number of 350 guests without a dance floor and 200 guests with a small dance floor, and the cost per person starts from R450 and includes the venue, reception and menu.

Talloula, Durban

Set in the midst of Botha's Hill, your guests can indulge in unique culinary experiences from the chef or you can work with a team of concept chefs to bring in your own tastes and themes.

The venue hire is R18 800 for 150 guests (an additional R80 is charged per additional guest) and includes a full body massage for the bridal couple at Talloula's spa and the bridal suite, and includes accommodation.   

Fynbos Estate, Malmesbury

Located on a beautiful old farm in the Paardeberg mountains, this venue offers gardens within gardens, giant old oaks and delicious country food using local and seasonal ingredients. Choose between three options for the reception: the garden pavillion, the old cellar or De Perderstal. With a nomadic tent, the farmhouse garden can accommodate up to 150 guests. 

The most popular package on offer is the Sonkop Wedding, which includes the reception venue(s) at R250 per guest. 

The C Club, Amatola Coastal 

Once a milking shed, this spot has since been modified into a rustic venue garden setting, which offers a romantic backdrop with the sun setting behind the trees and the local chapel in Chintsa East. You can use it for your wedding ceremony or combine your ceremony and reception in one venue. 

There is also a new thatched outdoor structure in case of inclement weather. And while your guests are enjoying lawn games, you and your partner can head off to Chintsa East beach for your photos. 

The venue can currently hold 120 guests inside and 120 outside on the deck, and costs range from R9 000 to R11 000. According to Daena-Rose Abbott from The C Club, they may extend it in 2018 to allow up to 300 guests.
