What is sure is that it won’t be her father Thomas Markle. After a drama-filled week of “will or won’t he?” Meghan confirmed her father would miss the nuptials as he’s recovering from heart surgery he had done on Wednesday (16 May).

So, who will have the honour? Modern day couples are bucking the trend of having their fathers give them away on their big day.

Here are different ways to meet your Prince Charming at the altar:

Have your mom walk you

Not everyone has a father figure available. So, if that applies to you, have the slow walk with someone who’s always there for you, your mom. It’s a great way of honoring the special lady in your life.

Walk with a brother or uncle

Sometimes brothers and uncles play a much more significant role in a bride’s life that they could easily qualify as the father of the bride.

Walk alone

Walking alone isn’t as taboo as it used to be. And no, your guest won’t think any less of you, if you are confident enough. We saw tennis ace Serena Williams and rapper Gucci Mane’s wife, Keyshia Ka’oir, walk on their own and we think it was a nice twist to the norm.

Walk together

If you’re going to do everything with the man you’re marrying, for the rest of your life, your wedding is the perfect place to start practicing. Have your seating arrangement done in a way that makes room for two aisles. That way you and your hubby-to-be can have a joint grand entrance.

Even your pet can do it

Whether it’s a dog or cat, if you have a pet, chances are they’ve been with you in good and bad times. So, why not walk with your most loyal rock of support?
