This new book might just make you take up the crochet needles

They’ve been blogging and contributing their work to magazines for years, and now crochet queens Anisa Fielding, Cornel Strydom and Elsbeth Eksteen have brought out their very own book – Hello, Crochet.

With its beautiful and quirky photographs, it offers detailed patterns for beanies, bags, skirts, tops and even toys. And if you think this is the type of dowdy stuff grannies would wear, think again.

The patterns are quirky, modern, creative and infinitely wearable. After all, crochet is so hot right now. From hipsters forming their own crochet and knitting circles to crochet items gracing the hottest runways, everybody is about that crochet life right now.

There’s been a revival of “old-timey” details like bobbles, tussles, appliques and embroidery in fashion, so don’t be surprised if you start seeing these “craft chic” items in your clothing stores. If you’ve seen Erin Robertson’s work on Project Runway season 15, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

The authors posted images from De Montfort University’s graduate ready-to-wear collection Spring/Summer 2015 on their blog, hellohart, to show the fashion potential of crochet

Unfortunately, Hello, Crochet is not a book for beginners. Rather, it’s jam-packed with 64 fun and creative projects for experienced crocheters.

Don’t be dismayed, though, there are plenty of good YouTube videos that can teach you the way of crochet, so get stuck into those, and then buy the book.
