The Boy on the Bridge by M.R. Carey (first published in 2017 by Little, Brown)

Samrina Khan is part of a team of scientists tasked with saving the world - literally.

After a plague of sorts spreads through mankind, turning them into hungries – bodies animated only to feed on others – the scientists are urgently on the lookout for research that could provide a cure and save mankind.

It’s a difficult enough task because every day is fraught with stress, danger and the looming possibility of infection, yet for Khan there’s an added complication – she’s pregnant.

Along with the scientists, 15-year old Stephen Greaves is also on board. An incredibly gifted young man – despite his social anxiety – he has already contributed significantly to the ability to research the hungries, yet he strives for more; he strives for understanding and a cure.

Just when the team’s search begins to seem fruitless, a possible discovery is made – a new sort of hungry that has previously undocumented and could potentially hold the key to unlocking the entire mystery of the infection.

The Boy on the Bridge is not a typical zombie thriller – it is incredibly polished, stylish and thrilling.

The protagonists are smart, capable and sassy. The challenges they face are multi-faceted and intriguing.

Not only do they face the possibility of turning into a walking, feeding corpse, there are also internal politics, personality clashes and egos to deal with – all of which make for a potent combination in such restricted circumstances.

MR Carey has presented a truly entertaining tale with more depth and sparkle than any zombie tale you’ve read or seen to date.

The Boy on the Bridge is a zombie tale for the discerning customer; an unmissable A-grade serving of horror and drama that you need to read as soon as possible.
