Book review: The Girl Before by JP Delaney

accreditation

The Girl Before by JP Delaney (first published in 2017 by Ballantine Books)

I’ve never been a massive fan of psychological thrillers, so it was no surprise to me that I found this book only mildly entertaining with a disappointing ending.

It had so much promise but somehow the plot did not deliver any terror, dread or surprise.

The story alternates between two women (Emma “then” and Jane “now”) who both at different times occupy One Folgate Street.

This masterpiece of architectural design was for me the most interesting thing about the book.

The idea of living in a high-tech, minimalistic, uncluttered house designed to take care of its occupier’s every need piqued my interest.  However, I found the characters a bit unconvincing and one-dimensional.

Having said all that, the other members of my book club who had read the book before me, gave it a high rating, so maybe it’s just me!

The fact that I finished the book must at least mean it is worth reading.

Give it a try.
