Azania’s shift from radio to TV didn’t come as a shock to her many fans because she’s an effortless presenter. In fact, that’s where her career began – she presented a youth talk show many years ago. However, Azania does confirm that prior to taking on the Real Talk job, she had been away from our screens for exactly 10 years and worked, instead, behind the scenes through her production company, Mile Productions.
When not on TV or radio – she’s also a lunchtime show host on Talk Radio 702 – Azania co-runs Miss Salon London and MsLondon Cosmetics. She says being a businesswoman would not be easy without drawing on her passion for empowering women, as well as her team. “Human capital is one of the most important aspects for a business to be successful. So, if you hire right, your business will be well on its way to the top,” she adds.
Tips on starting a business with friends
Even though the relationship with her business partners – Linda Jangulo and Ego Iwegbu – started off as professional, the group has since become really good friends. Azania says if you want to start a business venture with your friends, everyone must be clear about their vision. “Have an open communication system, and most importantly, have a certain level of maturity. I also think you need to get into it with an exit strategy should your business not work out,” the entrepreneur advises.
On juggling life
“I hate the notion of putting pressure on women to be superwomen and have it all figured it out because at the end of the day, we’re human. If you take on too much, you will eventually break,” the media personality states, adding that prioritising is essential. “My standing priorities at the moment are my family, business, radio show and TV show.”
If you follow the star on social media, you’ll notice the hashtag #GratitudeAlways on many of her posts. “Gratitude gets me out of bed every morning. I’m grateful that I got the opportunity to open my eyes while many others didn’t and are going through worse situations than I am,” she says. She continues: “Gratitude has been a big part of my life. It has since contributed to my happiness and fulfillment in life.”
Azania says she’s looking forward to trying out new things in the future. “I’m itching to do something different and I can’t wait to find out what that is. It’s not necessarily work but I know a change needs to happen,” she says, concluding that the current season of her TV talk show will end in October.
