Over the years there have been questions as to whether the Kardashians obsession with body image is healthy and perpetuates unrealistic standards of beauty.

Most recently, Twitter users have been calling out Kim Kardashian for her recent comments on her Instagram Stories that could be seen as potentially triggering for those suffering from eating disorders.

In her Instagram story from July 29th Kim filmed her sisters Kendall Jenner and Khloe Kardashian telling her she looked “so skinny” and Kim reacted with delight and encouraged them as they kept talking about her body.

"I'm really concerned. I don't think you're eating," Kendall tells Kim while smiling. "Like you look so skinny." Kim, who was also recently criticised for promoting appetite suppressing lollipops, gushes in response: "Oh my god, thank you!"

Kendall then holds up a mini purse and jokes “my purse is as tiny as you.” And Kim exclaims, “Oh my god, the compliments!”

In a later clip posted that same night, Khloé tells Kim, "I can literally see through you." Kim replies: "I'm down to 119 pounds. I will say when I take out my hair extensions I am less."

Khloé continues, saying Kim is “anorexic” in her waist and, “her arms are like pin thin.”

Many Twitter users were shocked by Kim’s gleeful response.

As some pointed out, anorexia is a disease and should never be glorified.

There is not much information about statistics concerning anorexia in South Africa, but it is known that women are far more prone to it than men and it usually strikes during early adolescence or young adulthood according to Health24.

According to NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association), anorexia is the third most common chronic disease among young people, after asthma and type 1 diabetes.

We all know that the Kardashians and Kim in particular have many young fans, so it’s concerning to see her seem gleeful about being called anorexic and to seemingly encourage that kind of talk about her body.
