Each year a selection of the country’s fittest – and very willing – firemen strip down to pose for the Australian Firefighters Calendar, published annually in October, to raise money for local and international charities.

For the 2019 edition the hunks posed with adorable animals, including kittens, puppies and koala bears.

“We’re very excited to start working with local Australian and international animal shelters,” said David Rogers, director of the calendar.

“We felt it was important to use the calendar’s social media presence to shine a light on the incredible work they all do.

“Even a small donation to these organisations can make an enormous difference and we look forward to expanding our support to these charities.”

The profits from this year’s calendar will go to the Wildlife Hospital at the late Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo, where the pictures for the 2019 calendar were taken.

“We’re so excited to be involved with the 2019 Australian Firefighters Calendar,” said Irwin’s daughter, Bindi.

“The funds they raise help to save and protect Australian native wildlife around the country. They really are Wildlife Warriors!

“It’s always a great experience for us to host the Australian Firefighters Calendar photoshoot at Australia Zoo. We’re proud to be able to include our wonderful animals in the 2019 edition.”

The project was begun in 1993 to support the Children’s Hospital Foundation which provides funds for research into childhood burns.

Now in its 26th year the calendar has raised more than $2,8 million (about R43 million) for various charities.
