Today marks the anniversary of the great women's march of 1956, when South African women took to the streets to protest against the carrying of a pass.
In celebration of great women, we asked some of South Africa’s favourite female celebs which South African personality they admire the most.
Professional Sportswoman, Vanes-Mari du Toit: I admire strong and fearless women in SA, people like Karlien van Jaarsveld and Thembisa Mdoda - amazing mothers and successful businesswomen who inspire me every day.
Actress, Dineo Moeketsi: Connie Ferguson. She’s taken on a role that portrays power, she realized her dreams and made an empire of following her passion. She portrays strength and empowerment in a male dominated industry.
Comedian & Actress, Claudine Ullman: Wow, there are so many incredibly powerful women in our industry who are paving the way for women in comedy, women like Tumi Morake, Celeste Ntuli, Mel Jones, Nina Hastie. I have loads to learn from these incredibly powerful, hilarious ladies.
Actress, Nicole Bessick: Angel Campey. A role model, who strangely enough, has become my best friend. I've always admired her work ethic, compassion and the positive, kind intentions she puts behind everything she does! She's funny sometimes too... sometimes.
TV Personality, Roxy Burger: I really admire Nomzamo Mbatha. I find her to be someone of character and great work ethic.
“And one day she discovered that she was fierce, and strong, and full of fire, and that not even she could hold herself back because her passion burned brighter than her fears.” – Mark Anthony
