I don’t know about you, but the one thing that always goes a long way in getting me to feel better after a lousy day, is having a good laugh.

There’s a reason for all those clichés about laughter being the best medicine you know.

And when it comes to laughter, there are a host of women in our country who certainly know how to unleash giggles and guffaws.

And frankly, it's exactly what we need in times when we’re bombarded with soul-destroying news almost all of the time.

So, if you’re looking for some local comedians (online and on stage) to support, look no further - here are three of our favourites.

Lindy Johnson

I first stumbled upon Cape Town based comedian Lindy Johnson when someone in my timeline retweeted her.

Her observations are not only hilarious, but astute and packed with a razor sharp wit that is laugh-out-loud funny and filled self-deprecating humour that is relatable and teaches us that it’s 100% okay to laugh at ourselves.

Celeste Ntuli

Actor and comedian Celeste Ntuli really needs no introduction.

The star has not only made waves for her role in popular TV show isiBaya, but she currently tied with Skhumba Hlope as the most nominated comedian for this year’s Comics Choice awards which is due to take place later this year.

Unwavering and unapologetic, no topic is too taboo for Celeste. From polygamy and relationships, to black tax and sex, Celeste will have you crying with laughter from the minute you walk into her show

Suzelle DIY

I mean, if you don’t know who Suzelle is by now, then I’m going to assume that you aren’t online very often.

Julia Anastasopoulos (aka Tali Babes), takes on on the hilarious and quirky persona of a DIY Diva with a distinctive Afrikaans accent.

There’s a charming ditziness to her character that makes her instantly loveable, while at the same time, will also have you in fits of giggles over her silly shenanigans.

Head on over to her YouTube channel - but be careful, you’re going to be falling down a rabbit hole.
