How to find the perfect dress

I love dresses.  The perfect dress is so easy to wear and is easy to dress up or down no matter what the occasion.  Although many women long to find the perfect dress, they often don’t know what length, style and colour to choose.

Here are some tips to help you along the way:

Find the style that suits your shape:
This may seem like mission impossible, but with some patience and willingness to try on a variety of styles, that perfect dress is out there waiting for you.  Here are some key styles to look out for:

Styles that fit in the waist and flair in the hem suit most shapes A flared hem balances curves and gives great shape.  If you have a dress you love, but it lacks waist definition, add a wide belt in the waist to give it shape.

A well-cut wrap dress is hard to beat.  It suits a variety of shapes and sizes.  Make sure that it has enough of a wrap around, otherwise you may constantly feel like you need to adjust it to keep yourself covered.

If you are well blessed in the bust area, rather than select a size that fits your bust but is too big elsewhere, try a size that gives you shape and wear a cami underneath it.  Dresses that have a v-neck are ideal for this.

Rouging on the side or front of a dress can work well to disguise your tummy.

Find your ideal length:  Length can make a huge difference.  It can transform a granny looking dress into a hot little number.  Finding your perfect length is key.  If you like your knees, then feel free to show some leg.  If not, your dress should end just below your knee or full length to your shoe.  Anything ¾ makes your hips look wider and legs look shorter.

Don’t be afraid of print:  Printed dresses can work wonders to disguise the less loved bits.  If you always stick to plain colurs, it’s time to venture out.  The key with print is to make sure the dress fits well and has shape.  A dress that is too big for you in a print will look dowdy…. not the look you are going for.

Your shoes are important:  When wearing a dress, your shoes become very important.  Select a heel that balances your calf well and elongates your leg. For example, if you have a chunky calf, select a substantial heel instead of a very delicate heel.  Wedges and stacked heels are great for this.  Likewise, if you have small calves, an overly chunky shoe will make your calves look smaller.  Nude shoes are great for all leg shapes.
