Artists rock Mr P collab

accreditation

Mr Price (or MRP) is working with eight of the best design talents for their popular Project collaboration. The artists were asked to create a limited edition range of tees that feature original illustrations.

The artists behind the beautiful expressions include David Tshabalala, Karabo Moletsane, Keith Vlahakis and Thabiso Monare.

Tshabalala, who designed a
T-shirt with the slogan “Believe in your selfie” alongside a picture of himself, says he wanted to challenge the stigma of selfies.

“I’m trying to debunk the notion that selfies are an act of narcissism and self-righteousness. And so I’ve presented the selfie as an act of self-love and self-belief, rather than one of vanity.”

Moletsane was inspired by her famed Zoo Lake custom basketball court design – an exciting collaboration with Nike, revealed last year.

“I love the aesthetic of Hawaiian and Cuban shirts, so my illustration has the same feeling of summer and vibrant colours, but echoes nature and summer in South Africa with the leopard illustration and word ‘chiskop’,” she says. With its plain front and wildly colourful and expressive back, this tee will be a head turner.

Monare’s design was created digitally using a unique style and technique to add a different flavour and feel to the striking red T-shirt.

“It’s inspired by a lot of Afro-centric movements,” Monare says.

By calling in artists who incorporate spray, digital, typography and many other techniques to their illustrations, MRP has created one of the most impressive collaborations to date.

  • The MRP X Project collaboration T-shirts retail for R99.99 and are available at mrp.com and in select MRP stores
