Ready for spring and summer? I sure am.
I am currently very eager to get myself not one, but all the block-heeled mules - in all pastel shades under the sun - for spring.
Or wait, will this upcoming fashion week perhaps change my mind about said trend and throw out a few unexpected Mary Janes? Or '60s T-bar flats? Most likely.
A handful of talented local and African designers will be showing their Spring/Summer 2016 collections this week. Hosted by African Fashion International (AFI), Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will be held at Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton. I love this venue. So much space to move about between shows, good food (and drinks) everywhere and there is a whole mall filled with shops - i.e. in case of a very probable fashion faux pas.
From 10-13 August 2016 the square will be buzzing with street style stars, glam squads and fashion editors. So, don't be alarmed in case you happen to pass through the square and see a woman entirely draped in bubble wrap. She's okay. It's just fashion.
The 4 shows we simply can't wait to see:
The David Tlale Intern - the next generation of young, talented designers groomed under the tutelage of Tlale will be showcasing their collections.
Laduma's MaXhosa collection - all hail the knitwear master who has returned from Italy where he walked away with the 2015 Vogue Italia Scouting for Africa Award.
Shana - her shows are always young, fresh and inspired by beautiful locales like Mexico.
Suzaan Heyns - because everyone should get married in one of her magnificent wedding designs.
