Jetlagged, I arrived back in the good old Mother City after an impromptu trip/imaginative fashion adventure to Florida and Vegas. (see article below)

I took a week to recuperate, those locals might seem laidback upon first introduction, but they make a mean G&T - the kind where the amount of T doesn’t properly dilute the potency of the G.
Nonetheless, shoved back into reality of work and the impending doom that is the festive season, I became negative. Negative because I’m really not a Christmas person. I’m no Grinch, but I would eat a Mopane worm if it meant never again hearing Christmas music in malls.
I just don’t like the Winter Wonderland, carols and over-commercialised Christmas things. I can’t relate to it as I’m sure most of you can’t either. We don’t curl up in front of the fire with eggnog. We feast, we braai, enjoy a beer or glass of white, swim and wear floppy Christmas hats from a Checkers packet.
So, in the spirit of (Southern Hemisphere) Christmas, here is what I wore to celebrate our special flavour of Christmas:
Day 1
I decided to dive into the festive spirit and opted for colour blocking. Choosing a shirt so green and so Christmassy I almost ate a mince pie. And I've never had one.
Shirt – vintage, Skirt – Zara, Earrings – Lichen & Leaf
Day 2
Inspired by the Christmas cracker, I liked that the ruffle on this skirt looks like it can be pulled like one would a cracker.
The ribbon detail on the top also resonated with the ones tied around crackers (okay, maybe just the Woolies ones).
And the earrings I wore are tiny little firecrackers themselves - I imagine them being found inside the crackers as little gifts (probably only inside Country Road crackers).
Blouse – Superella, Skirt – Topshop, Earrings – Missibaba
Day 3
Christmas trees are always so over decorated. When I see all that tinsel I just think, urgh, capitalism. So on the 3rd day I chose a simple Christmas tree look. One that says, ‘I am a minimalist tree, one that denounces the indulgent lifestyle of those trees who flaunt their wealth and material possessions for the sake of attention.’

Jacket – vintage, Earrings – Lichen & Leaf
Day 4
Towards the end of the week I started craving something sweet. Christmas trifle it was.

I remember my gran making this when I was a child. And as a child, especially, this is quite a daunting dessert. It’s so massive, and all those sugary layers, yoh. Diabetes served up in a gargantuan glass vessel.
Shirt – Topshop, Skirt – Refinery, scarf in hair – vintage
Day 5
Growing up Christmas day always meant an early morning in a packed and very warm Church (hence the blouse). Luckily it was soon onto enjoying blue skies (hence the skirt) and into my bathing costume (hence the body suit).
Blouse – vintage, Skirt – Zara, Body suit – Vintage Lover.
