I just bought a yellow shirt I never knew I wanted. Here's why

accreditation

I never considered that I would ever want to own a yellow shirt but all of a sudden (it felt like), I had to have one.

How did this come about?

I guess consumer culture today says that needs are no longer inherent, rather they are manufactured by others.

That doesn't mean those needs don't exist within us but it seems they need to be reflected by someone else through a screen to us in order for us to realise them ourselves.

Case in point. I see this cool girl wearing a yellow shirt on Instagram last week.

Then I kind of forget about the shirt until I'm confronted by the utmost desire for it once more.

Here's how it all started...

This shoe post by international designer brand Mansur Gavriel featuring the pumps below.

Taupe and chocolate brown are not my colours, "but with a pop of baby blue it can certainly work?", I considered.

Ballerina Pump ??

Considering this combo made me think of the colour scheme recently presented by local talents Selfi and Rharha in their collection of apparel, under the brand La Loba.

This led me further down the Instagram vortex, sending me to Rharha's page for some light stalking.

Then this image caught my eye. I think it's the very Frida Kahlo-ness of it all that captivated me. And her dress!

Also this one...

So it got me thinking about the simplicity of a little black dress again.

And who is THE LBD kween? Coco, of course.

So onto Chanel's gram and a look at the Chanel Couture Show held in Paris this week.

The cute peachy pink dresses and black veils that punctuated the show made me consider juxtaposition for a moment.

I just love a bit of soft with a hard edge or finish, which is why I'm also loving the newly launched ADIColor range by adidas.

The colour range has been reimagined for 2018 and features colours loved in the past and the present including Bluebird, Fairway Green, Scarlett Red and Sun Yellow.

This is vibrant athleisure that can easily be dressed up for epic day and evening streetwear looks. The perfect contrast.

Nearing the end of vortex...

The colour reminded me of an image I saw last week of a woman wearing a long yellow shirt as a dress, styled with a blue scrunchie, blue socks and chunky white sneakers. Yoh. So good.

Conclusion of vortex: I need a yellow shirt in my life.

Hence, I added this to my cart:

Superbalist, R419.
