Since the launch of her debut collection in May 2015, fashion blogger and designer Brett Robson has used the clothes available at her online store, Shop Brett Robson, to make women feel awesome.
“These clothes should make you feel like you can do anything. They should make chasing your dreams a reality. And that’s how we want you to feel when you wear them,” she tells #Trending.
Robson started her career by graduating with a degree in fashion design. “I’m very fortunate to have known my path from the beginning.”
Soon after graduating she started working within the industry as a stylist, assistant merchandiser and junior designer.
“My first job was working as an assistant merchandiser for a company that made printed childrens’ tees for a major retailer,” she says.
Regarding our shopping choices, Robson says: “South African consumers are still getting used to online shopping. It’s not easy to just trust an online site with your money. I believe part of our success has come from my reputation as a blogger. Because people trusted me, they became our customers.”
Robson says she would also attribute the store’s success to the team’s social media presence, and the support of well-known influencers.
“When people see others sharing the positive experiences they had with our online shop, it puts them at ease.”
And what have been her highlights and challenges?
“We launched the Shop Brett Robson app in November 2017. The app has brought in more sales and more awareness about our brand. Another highlight would have to be photographing our merchandise in all the sizes we offer, XS to L, and photographing models in those sizes. We want customers to feel like they can relate to the models.
“The biggest challenge thus far has been manufacturing. It’s been difficult to get consistency and find new factories to manufacture our goods. This has been my biggest worry.”
Robson says that, as a young woman running a business, she’s often underestimated, but she takes that in her stride and looks forward to new challenges.
