We tried to shop some of the Met Gala outfits IRL and on a budget

Sure, Givenchy, Versace and Chanel designs are way out of our (immediate) budget. (I have some money tied up in the Caymans, obvs.)

But no one said we couldn't draw style inspo from the recent fashion Oscars on a budget.

And ideally, we'd love to shop Zendaya's Met Gala hair, but since scalping is kind of wrong, we need to consider other, more realistic ways to shop the Met Gala.

Let's look at a few colours and trends that stood out and how to copy the looks for less: 

Black cloak/coat

Imaan Hammam in Zac Posen, just a dream. That collar is just exquisite.

Get a similar one, only about a few thousand rands cheaper.

Sexy black dress

This dress is perfect for an event where you want to feel sexy, but won't run the risk of falling out of your dress.

Mustard

A massive trend at the moment, mustard can easily be incorporated into any basic wardrobe. For those afraid of colour, an accessory in that colour is the answer.
