Everyday "plus size” women recreate popular fashion ads

We often see slender, light-skinned women on magazine covers, and as a result many women struggle with feelings of inadequacy and they end-up comparing themselves to the fashion industry’s unrealistic beauty standards.

"I’ve heard so many times that my body isn’t really capable of doing beautiful, fashion things and seeing myself actually do it felt like a mistake."

From Gigi Hadid's Tommy Hilfiger fragrance ad to Kendall Jenner's Calvin Klein shoot, Buzzfeed got a few of their staff to recreate six of the most famous high-fashion ads of 2016.

" I honestly can’t believe I went through with being photographed half naked, pretending to be a Jenner girl. I mean, who the hell do I think I really am? The girl!"


The plus-size models posed exactly like their supermodel counterparts, proving that women with curves can do high fashion after all. Here’s how it went:

Keisha, who recreated Kendall Jenner's Calvin shoot said "Guys, I’m sorry, but I am not Kendall Jenner nor do I have a Kendall Jenner's body. I don’t know if it’s obvious or not, but listen — being a model is hard.

"I honestly can’t believe I went through with being photographed half naked, pretending to be a Jenner girl. I mean, who the hell do I think I really am? The girl!"

“I was actually shocked that the photo turned out as well as it did.  I’ve heard so many times that my body isn’t really capable of doing beautiful, fashion things and seeing myself actually do it felt like a mistake.

"But this should tell you just how much of a difference it makes when you have good makeup, hair, lighting and photography and of course excellent rope.” says Kristin, who recreated Gigi Hadid's Tommy Hilfiger fragrance.

This shoot is so empowering and necessary. I hope it inspires young girls and make them realise that beauty has got nothing to do with one's body size or skin colour.
