The traditional art definition of monochrome (that I recall cramming at one stage for an art exam) is defined as, one colour.
Mono, the root-word which means 'one' is where it all begins.
Dictionary.com defines the word as, “the state or condition of being painted, decorated, etc., in shades of a single colour.”
And the idea that automatically springs to mind upon hearing the term is the combination of two solid colours like pink and white but most commonly a fusion of black and white.

Fortunately, with so much meaning attached to this single term, there’s plenty of room for interpretation, which on any given day is music to any fashion lover's ears.
